Three practical things sit behind the owner led one and they are worth pulling out on their own: Keys does same day installs, it works to a 24 hour response time, and it is locally owned. None of that is a promise about a particular roof, which depends on the weather, the material and what the tear off finds. It is a description of how the company is set up, and setting a job the same day it was looked at is not a shape a crew dispatched from a home office in another state can take.
The order on this page is built two different ways and it is worth knowing which is which. The top row is ours. Keys Roofing is our editorial pick and the only entry measured against the five criteria in the How we rate block further down this page. Everything from row two onward is the Chesterfield file in adjusted rating order, each row carrying a short label taken from its own review figures or its own registered trading name rather than a mark against those criteria. Two listings clear the category test and the address test but not the ten review floor. Their real numbers:

The second of those is the clearest argument for having a floor at all. A single one star review is not evidence that a company is bad; it is evidence that one person had one experience. Run it through the adjustment formula anyway and the town average drags it up to 4.64, which would have placed it above four other listings, one of which carries 135 reviews. A formula that produces that result on that input is a formula you should be told about rather than shown the output of.
What each note on a row means, and what it does not
Flags describe the listing. They are checks anyone can repeat against the same public data in about ten minutes. None of them is an accusation about the quality of anybody's work, and none of them moved a single row up or down. They exist because a name and a star rating side by side flattens differences that matter.
Shared suite
This listing's street address string is identical to at least one other listing in the table. Five rows carry it, all at 100 Chesterfield Business Parkway, and four of the five give the same suite number. Leasing space in a multi tenant building is ordinary and lawful. It is worth flagging because a homeowner comparing five names in a search result reasonably assumes they are comparing five separate premises, and here they are not.
Thin sample
Fewer than twenty five reviews, which is the weight given to the town average in the formula. Below that number the anchor is doing more than half the work, so the ordering value is closer to a statement about Chesterfield than a statement about the company. Five rows carry this flag. It is not a criticism. New companies and small ones have thin samples by definition.
National page
The website recorded on the listing is a location page inside a national brand's site rather than a site belonging to this office. Two rows carry it. A franchise or a national roll up can do perfectly good work. What it changes is who you are contracting with, who carries the warranty, and who answers when the office you drove past changes hands.
Off domain, or no site listed
Two rows. One listing records no website at all in the pull. One records a website on a domain unrelated to the business name, alongside a toll free number rather than a local exchange. Both are worth a homeowner's attention for the same reason: the fastest way to find out who you are actually talking to is to find out whose name is on the domain and whose phone rings.
Listing does not resolve
One row. The website field on this listing points at a domain that is not a roofing company's site, and the phone field is a repeated digit stand in in the 555 exchange, which is reserved for fiction and never assigned to a real subscriber. The listing still carries a category, a rating and 135 reviews, and Google still ranks it. It is in the table because deleting inconvenient rows is how a comparison becomes a advertisement, and it is flagged because nothing on it can be verified.
What was taken out of this table before it was built
The source pull returns any Google Maps business whose category matches roofing or guttering. Two Chesterfield businesses came back under the category Gutter cleaning service. Both were removed. In this metro that category is dominated by pressure washing and window cleaning companies, and listing a window cleaner in a roofing comparison would be a straightforward misrepresentation of what they do and what they are insured for. Their category is not a technicality; it is their own description of their business.
Nothing else was removed. Every listing that came back with the exact category Roofing contractor and a Chesterfield address is on this page, including a franchise restoration office, a company whose contact details do not resolve, and a board up company with one review. A comparison that quietly drops the awkward entries has stopped being a comparison.
The reverse exclusion is the one that matters more and cannot be fixed from this data. Roofing companies registered in Fenton, Maryland Heights, Manchester, Ballwin or St. Charles work in Chesterfield constantly and are not in this table, because this table is built from addresses. If you take one thing from this page, take that: this is a ranking of Chesterfield business registrations, not a ranking of who roofs Chesterfield. That is the whole argument of the address page.
The gap between row two and row nine of this table is about eight hundredths of a star. That is not a meaningful difference in quality; it is noise in a small sample, and it is why those rows carry labels rather than scores. Treat the whole top group as a shortlist of names worth calling, not as a queue. What separates them is in the questions and the written scope, and neither of those appears anywhere in a star rating.
Five heavily advertised names that appear nowhere above
Everything above is a Chesterfield business registration. It is not a list of the companies that will actually park on your drive. Five names we think a Chesterfield homeowner should have read about first are set out below, each described in the words it publishes about itself, read on 23 August 2026. Not one of the five carries a Chesterfield registration in the Google file this site is built from, so not one of them can appear in the ranking above, and no figure is printed for any of them that Google did not publish for its own registration.
- Best Choice Roofing. Its locations page says "Operating across more than 85 locations throughout the United States", and names roughly two dozen states, Missouri among them. Its home page headline is "OVER 1 BILLION SHINGLES INSTALLED!" and its financing page promotes "Pay as Little as 94.99 per month*".
- Bone Dry Roofing. Its About page says "Beginning in Indiana, with our headquarters in Indianapolis, we expanded to include offices in Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee", and that the company "has grown through merger and acquisition". Its location picker lists eighteen offices, St. Louis among them. In the wider metro file it is a St Peters listing, rated 4.8 from 645 reviews, which is a St Peters registration and not a Chesterfield one.
- Storm Guard. Its footer gives its home office as "Home Office 5000 Overton Plaza, Suite 200 Fort Worth, TX 76109", its navigation carries the item "Own a Franchise", and the site says its locations are owned by franchise owners.
- John Beal Roofing. Its own site calls it "A Leading Roofing Company in the Midwest" and its locations menu lists St. Louis and Chesterfield in Missouri and Edwardsville in Illinois. It publishes a Chesterfield location and still does not appear in a table built from Chesterfield Google registrations, which is the clearest demonstration on this site that the two records are not the same record.
- Schneider Roofing and Remodeling. Its own site says it is family owned and based in St. Charles, Missouri, and its financing line reads "Make Your House Look Like New for as Low as a Cup of Coffee a Day... With Our Unique Financing Options!" In the metro file it is a St Charles listing, rated 4.8 from 444 reviews.
Every line above is a sentence one of those companies publishes about itself, and none of it is a judgement about how any of them does the work. None of the five holds a Chesterfield business address in the file behind this table, so putting any of them in it would mean inventing a figure or moving a town, and this site does neither. Four of the five publish a service menu carrying more than one trade. The entry at number one is a different case again: it is our editorial pick on the five criteria in the How we rate block, and no star rating and no review count is published for it anywhere on this site.
The five criteria, the count, and where the figures come from
- What the number one entry is measured against
- Five criteria, each one a yes or a no. They are the things we think separate a roofing company from a company that also does roofs, and they are the only five. Nothing is weighted, nothing is hidden behind a coefficient.
- Scope discipline. Roofing, gutters and downspouts, and nothing else. No siding, no windows, no commercial work. A company that sells four trades is scheduling four trades. Keys meets it.
- Water handled end to end. The gutter and downspout menu is carried on the same ticket as the roof, underground drainage included, which is the half of the job most roofing companies hand to somebody else or leave off the proposal. Keys meets it.
- Owner led. The owner runs the work, so the person who quotes the job is the person accountable for it. It is also what makes the rest of it possible: Keys does same day installs, works to a 24 hour response time, and is locally owned. Keys meets it. Those three are evidence for this criterion, not a sixth criterion, and the scorecard stays at five.
- A stated shingle line. Atlas and Malarkey, named in the open, rather than whatever is cheapest on the supplier's truck that week. Keys meets it.
- Licensed and insured. Stated plainly, not implied. Keys meets it.
- How the score is derived
- It is a count. Add up the criteria met and print the total out of five. Keys Roofing meets all five, so the entry reads 5 of 5 criteria met. That figure is a count of the boxes on our own scorecard. It is not a Google star rating, it is not a review score, and it is not on the same scale as anything in the Google column of the table.
- Why the companies below carry labels instead
- We have not put a ladder against any of their roofs, read any of their proposals or sat in any of their sales appointments, so we are in no position to mark them against those five criteria. What we do have is their own Google file and their own registered trading name, so each one gets a short label drawn strictly from that: how many reviews, how strong the average, what the company calls itself. A label is a description of the row, not a verdict on the company.
- How rows two and below are ordered
- By a review count adjusted Google rating. Each star average is pulled toward the town average in proportion to how thin its sample is, so a five star average on fourteen reviews cannot outrank a 4.9 on two hundred by default. The anchor is 4.787, the review weighted mean of all twenty three Chesterfield roofing listings.
- adjusted = (v × R + 25 × 4.787) / (v + 25) where v = reviews, R = star rating
- The row filter
- Only rows whose Google categoryName is exactly Roofing contractor. That is 225 of the 263 rated rows in the file, twenty three of which carry a Chesterfield address. The file also holds Gutter cleaning service and Gutter service rows, which in this market are pressure washing and window cleaning companies. They are not roofers, so they are not published here. Two Chesterfield businesses were left out on that test.
- Source and pull date
- Google Maps, three pulls run on 23 August 2026 covering St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Chesterfield, deduplicated on placeId. Star averages and review counts are frozen at that date, belong to the businesses they describe, and will have drifted since. We publish no star rating and no review count for Keys Roofing, because Keys states neither on its own website.
- The review floor
- Ten reviews. Two Chesterfield roofing listings fall under it. They are held back from the order and shown separately with their real figures rather than deleted.
- Whether a crew will show up on the day it said it would.
- Whether the company that sold the job is the company that installs it, or whether the work is subcontracted out to a crew you have not met.
- Workmanship on the roof itself. Almost no homeowner climbs up to check, so almost no review is about the shingles.
- Whether the business is insured today, whether the certificate covers the crew, and whether a claim against it would be paid.
- Price, or whether a low bid stayed low after the tear off.
- Anything about reviews that were solicited, filtered, incentivised or bought. The Google column assumes the reviews are what they appear to be, and that assumption is doing a lot of work.
- Whether a company works in Chesterfield at all. The Google column measures where the business is registered. Those are different facts, and that difference is the most useful thing on this site.
